Sourcing in a Crisis: What We Learned from the 2021 PPE Chaos

Back in early 2021, at the height of the pandemic, demand for medical disposables, especially medical-grade masks and nitrile gloves, exploded almost overnight. Many companies suddenly struggled to find reliable supplies as factories shut down, shipping routes collapsed, and opportunistic suppliers rushed in with questionable products.

Despite the chaos, we managed to source and deliver qualified PPE at fair prices. We could do this because of our established network of manufacturers in Greater China and our on-the-ground presence, which allowed us to communicate directly and verify quality in person.

Sadly, not everyone was so fortunate. Some government-appointed suppliers failed to deliver or provided substandard goods at hugely inflated prices - stories that still make headlines today.

The big takeaway? In any supply crisis, due diligence and trusted local partners make all the difference.
